Breeding Betta Hi I just have a question how do you go about breeding bettas? Are they good parents? Any information would be great. Thanks

The male will build a bubble nest and take the female into it and squeeze the eggs out of here. teh trick is getting the female out without destroying the nest. Mine is currently starting to build his nest. The male is extremely aggressive and can easily kill the female.

Plants for the fry and for the female to hide in .
Heat. I like 85F

As of late my guys ether don't know what to do (can't complete the HUG) or destroy the nest AFTER the eggs are laid. Very frustrating....

Freshman year at college i was doing a paper on labyrinth fish for a class... aquaculture major at IA state
I set up a 5g, used sand as a substrate, no plants, no decorations, nothing for them to hide in, and a submersible filter to reduce surface agitation. I put 1 male and 1 female betta in. within a week the nest was built and they were mating, gave all the fry away to people on my floor. Never tried breeding them again, but in my experience, i really didn't have to do much.
I'm not a betta enthusiast so maybe i just got lucky, i didn't really know what i was doing...

Oh, one thing i do remember.... When the male was squeezing the eggs out of the female, he would catch them as they were falling or pick them off the bottom of the tank.
I freaked, i thought he was eating them. Turns out, he was picking them up and spitting them into the nest. (I didn't think beforehand about how the eggs ended up in the nest)
Long story short, if you see the male "eating" the eggs, don't panic, he's probably just putting them in the nest.
